Melissa Gough Fletcher A.I.A.
Principal Architect
Melissa is the founder of MGF Designs. She is a registered architect in California and Vermont and has been practicing architecture for more than 30 years. She is a member of the American Institute of Architects and Vermont Green Building Network.
Melissa received her Master’s in Architecture at U.Cal. Berkeley and her Bachelor’s in Architecture at the University of Virginia. Between degrees Melissa worked in construction on Nantucket learning first first-hand what it takes to build houses.
Melissa specializes in energy-efficient residential design and has been certified in both the American and European Passive house systems and in LEED. Before founding MGF Designs she worked for many years at Backen Arrigoni and Ross in San Francisco specializing in affordable and elderly housing.
Melissa has a passion for travelling and sketching and took a seven-year hiatus to live in Belgium before moving to Vermont. There she raised two sons, saw and sketched as many architectural works as possible and learned about building practices in Europe.

Melissa designed a kitchen and vertical addition to my 1820 brick one-room schoolhouse in Vermont. She was super thoughtful to find ways to preserve the original timber framing of the roof while maximizing the interior space for storage, second bedroom and office. I initially retained Melissa for assistance in evaluating a retirement property that I was contemplating purchasing.
